Job Information:
The goal for this full-time position is to guide and direct clients with their health care needs by following a solution model, patient-centered plan that best protects them and /or assistance in negotiating the reduction of medical bills and the completion of grant applications to pay for household and medical bills during a health crisis or recovery period. Individual must be solution oriented, think outside status quo, positive worldview, honest, respectful and have a deep sense of compassion. A team player capable of working independently. Capable of completing work on a timely basis. Candidate must also be sensitive to highly confidential issues and trustworthy. Requires being very detail and solution oriented, as well as versatile and open minded on learning new processes. Knowledge of the music industry and / or health insurance is a plus.

Advocacy
• Act as a liaison between the music industry and health care access
• Read and research daily medical news and stay abreast of changes as they develop so that MHA can continue to serve its clients with the latest news that will affect them
• Meet with clients to assess their medical and financial needs.
• Determine that need has been established and bills can be decreased or written off
• Counsel clients on best solution and direct them to other resources that can assist once vetted
• Assist in writing applications for financial grants (MusiCares, Opry Trust, Haven Foundation, etc.)
• Research new grant resources tailored to a client’s specific needs/diagnosis
• Enter client savings into OnContact software system as grants are made
• Support the Mission and goals of MHA
• Communicate with advocacy client periodically to assess where they are in their health journey and update MHA team
• Accept other duties as assigned

Insurance Navigator
• As a licensed agent, research best coverage for client or company and provide options for their needs.
Determine if marketplace or private insurance best suits them based on income and assessment of client interview
• Continue education and maintain license status
• Complete annual certification for marketplace
• Enter personal client information into OnContact software system with all pertinent savings, genre of music, key attachments, and health issues

Position Requirements & Qualifications:
Education and Experience
• College degree preferred but not required
• Minimum of 10 years music industry experience or 10 years of business experience in finance, sociology, or health related field
• Health Insurance License a plus (MHA will train for certification upon hiring)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Commitment to public service
• Needs to be compassionate, empathetic, and non-judgmental
• Requires enthusiasm, self-motivation and a positive attitude
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with all levels of business and community leaders

The 2nd annual “Heal The Music Day” will take place on Friday, October 19, 2018 as a day of nationwide music industry fundraising and awareness to support the critical and life-saving free services provided by Music Health Alliance.

Since founding in 2013, Nashville-based non-profit Music Health Alliance has:
 Served 8,400 members of the music community nationwide
 Saved over $33,000,000 in healthcare costs including insurance premium savings, medical bill reductions and discounted medications
 Supported our creative community across 38 states and every genre of music
 Spared 428 families from bankruptcy due to a medical crisis
 Provided 8 patients with access to transplants including heart, lung, kidney and liver

MUSIC INDUSTRY VETERAN CHARLIE MONK HONORED AT SECOND ANNUAL MUSIC ROW STORYTELLERS EVENT

NASHVILLE (October 10, 2017) – Music industry veteran Charlie Monk was honored Monday, October 9 at the second annual Music Row Storytellers event, benefiting Music Health Alliance.

 

The event honors those who stand the test of time in telling the stories that make the music industry so fascinating – the journalists, interviewers, reporters, show hosts and others who chronicle and share the stories of Music Row and its musicmakers.

 

Charlie Monk’s career began as a DJ in the 1950s in his home state of Alabama, bringing him to Music City in 1968. A role at ASCAP was followed by a move into publishing, eventually under his own banner, Monk Family Music, where he signed an unknown Randy Travis, nurtured the career of Kenny Chesney and developed the talents of Nashville’s biggest songwriters. After a brief tenure at Acuff-Rose, Monk settled into his role as a leader in the music community, serving as an executive and member on the boards of such organizations as NARAS, Nashville Songwriters Association International, the GMA and CMA. A founder of the Country Radio Seminar, his decades as the host of the New Faces Show allowed his wit and humor to shine their brightest…as they still do six days a week on SiriusXM Channel 59 (Willie’s Roadhouse).

AT FIRST ANNUAL MUSIC ROW STORYTELLERS EVENT

August 15 Event to Benefit Music Health Alliance; Tickets Available Now

NASHVILLE (June 27, 2016) – Hazel Smith is a storyteller – she has thousands of them. That’s because she witnessed so many, played a role in so many…and ultimately chronicled and shared so many. Hazel is one of Music Row’s “Storytellers,” a journalist who has been a constant force and source in country music as long as many can remember. That is why she’s being honored as the initial subject of Music Row Storytellers.

Music Row Storytellers is a special event series designed to honor those that stand the test of time in telling the stories that make the music industry so fascinating – the journalists, interviewers, reporters, show hosts and others who chronicle and share the stories of Music Row and its musicmakers. The first annual event will be held on Monday, August 15 at Well Placed Smile (907 Gleaves St., Nashville, TN 37203). A 6:00pm cocktail reception will be followed by a 6:30pm program honoring Smith and benefiting Music Health Alliance. The evening will be filled with smiles, laughter and stories from Hazel and surprise guests who’ve been part of her career.

Hazel Smith moved to Nashville in the late ’60s; the divorced mother of two would go on to be a songwriter, publicist, manager and – in what was probably her most durable role – journalist. Her ability to capture and translate a story are a tribute to her no-nonsense questioning, to the respect she’s earned from artists and industry leaders alike…and to her astute sense of observation, which was never more evident than when she coined the phrase “Outlaw Music” in the 1970s to describe the sound that she was hearing from then-clients Kinky Friedman, Tompall Glaser, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Hazel would go on to tell many more of Music Row’s stories as a writer for Country Music magazine, a radio reporter, and a regular columnist for CMT.com. She’s seen it all…and lived a lot of it, too.

Music Row Storytellers benefits Music Health Alliance, a non-profit organization providing the music industry with free services, including healthcare advocacy, resources and confidential guidance. Since its launch in 2013, Music Health Alliance has helped more than 4,100 music industry professionals and their families, and secured over $10.8 million in health care cost reductions as part of that effort.
